NHL talks remains on the right route in spite of the slow process

The assurance from the actual participants was there as the negotiating teams of the NHL and NHL Players’ Association took the seats for boarding collective bargaining train.
With both Tuesday failing to produce any fruitful result, a memo was sent on Wednesday to the owners by the NHL hockey commissioner Gary Bettman indicating to make traction on Thursday, else there would be burst up.
This had made good vibrations and after about 20 minutes prolonged discussions in Manhattan, the two sides decided to sit across on Friday for a fourth successive day keeping the train still on track.
This broke all the previous NHL hockey lockout 2012 records.
The players put forward a new concept on sharing of revenues on Wednesday that showed the benefit of bigger market teams helping the financially-struggling franchises thus helping them to use the extra profit for improving their products and to increase the revenues.
The players also teased the honoring contracts issue which the owners started last month. The NHLPA also expressed eagerness to a continuous descent from 57-42 percent hockey-related revenues share to 50-50 split by the new agreement’s third year.
Instead of rejecting the NHLPA ideas, on Thursday the league made a counter-proposal. Thus some actual negotiations are being procured this week.
With the November schedule cancellation, the silent treatment over the two weeks and also the Winter Classic, both the NHL and the NHLPA doesn’t want to see themselves as the bad guys. So they will have further discussions this Friday and also the weekend.
“I think every passing day is very critical for us.” Bettman said.
Also no pointing at one another was there throughout the media statements or at the sessions with the reporters.
Despite of all the time spent on talking, the most troubling news was that the locomotive hasn’t moved from this point.
The office of Proskauer-Rose law firm which is in Manhattan, across the road from New York Times building, has become the meeting place of the sides for the last three days. The NBA and NFL latest labor disputes were employed at this Proskauer-Rose firm. The main negotiators of NHLPA were executive director Donald Fehr with his brother Steve and Bettman and NHL deputy Commissioner Bill Daly. Besides them, players Chris Campolli, Mathieu Darche, Ron Hainsey, Johan Hedberg, Manny Malhotra, David Bakes and Kevin Westgarth also participated.
NHL was represented by Murray Edward, co-owner of Calgary Flames; Craig Leipoid, Minnesota wild owner.
So the questions about the season’s starting, number of games to be played can soon be answered with the two sides having their meeting done, and doing the necessary talking.
